** Use the standard 1MB memory module provide with the computer or a
PCSM 1170.
Configuration Notes:
A - An alternate would be to put one PCSM 1270 into Slot 1.
COMPAQ 386N
CPU: 80386SX-20MHz
SIMM Sockets: 2
Standard Memory: 1MB
Maximum System Board Memory: 8MB
Intel Matched Memory Compatibility: PCSM 1170 (1MB)
PCSM 1270 (2MB)
PCSM 1455 (4MB)
There are two SIMM slots (labeled 0 & 1) on the system board. Slot 0
on the system board must be filled before additional memory is
recognized. When using the optional Compaq expansion board, fill
slots 0 and 1 on the system board then install two SIMMs on the add-
in board in slots 2 and 3 (leave slot 1 blank).
After adding memory, run the computer's configuration program: press
the F10 key while the cursor blinks at the far right of the screen
just after turning on the computer.
COMPAQ 386S
SIMM Sockets: 4
Standard Memory: 2MB (1 2MB SIMM)
Maximum System Board Memory: 16MB
Intel Matched Memory Compatibility: PCSM 1170 (1MB)
PCSM 1270 (2MB)
PCSM 1455 (4MB)
The system board has three vertical SIMM connectors and one
horizontal SIMM connector. The horizontal connector was used to
avoid interfering with add-in boards.
A few error codes which you might see are:
■ 164 Memory Size Error, Run Setup
■ 201 Memory Error, Memory failure, Check SIMMs.
■ 203 Memory Address Error, Memory failure, Check SIMMs
■ 207 Invalid Memory Configuration, SIMMS installed incorrectly,
verify installation.
■ 208 Invalid Memory Module in Bank X, SIMMS installed incorrectly,
verify installation.
COMPAQ PORTABLE 486C
The Compaq Portable 486c comes standard with 4MB of memory in one of
the four sockets on the system's processor board. The processor
board is expandable to 32MB.
Intel Matched Memory Compatibility:
Module Intel Part Compaq Equivalent
